FUTSAL – CHINA booked their place in the semi-finals of the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup China 2025 after cruising 6-0 past Indonesia in their last-eight tie yesterday.
The hosts will meet Thailand in the semi-finals tomorrow.
Both sides had early glimpses at goal with China’s Zhan Huimin sending a deep lob to Su Jiahong, whose tame shot was easily gathered by Indonesia keeper Sella Salsadila Agustin while at the other end, Novita Murni miscued her cross intended for Fitri Rosdiana.
Luís Estrela’s Indonesia opted for a high-pressing approach but it did little to disrupt China’s rhythm, with Zhang Rui and Jiang Xiaoyu both going close with efforts from distance.
Indonesia played in patches and had a chance to take the lead in the 10th minute from a set-piece but Nisma Francida Rusdiana fired her shot over the bar.
Sella kept Indonesia in the game with a trio of saves, first denying Zhan’s powerful free-kick in the 12th minute before deflecting Zou Yinglan and Zhan’s shots on the right.
However, China capitalised a minute later on a poor clearance by Nisma with Zhan Zewen collecting the ball at the top of the arc, shrugging off her marker and drilling a shot into the bottom left corner.
Indonesia felt the pressure of China’s aggression and fell further behind three minutes after the restart when Sella deflected Zou’s long range effort into the path of Fan Yuqiu to convert with the easiest of finishes.
Sella escaped further agony moments later when Zhan’s low shot slipped through her clutches only for Nisma to scramble the ball to safety.
But the Indonesian custodian was a mere spectator two minutes later when Zhang collected a loose ball in her own half before embarking on a solo run to finish past the rooted Sella.
China added their fourth just after the half-hour mark when Zhang’s through pass found Jiang Xiaoyu, who kept her cool to convert on her second attempt following Sella’s initial block.
Yu Ting added her name on the scoresheet in the 36th minute after collecting Ke Yaoxiang’s layoff before slotting home from inside the area before Xiong Jing added the sixth two minutes from the end to cap a magnificent victory.
Meanwhile, Iran stayed on course to win a third AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup title by overcoming Chinese Taipei in another quarter-final yesterday.
They were made to sweat for the 3-1 victory at the Hohhot Sports Centre by a determined opposition, who were gunning to reach the last four for the first time.
After the match finished 1-1 at the end of regulation time, Fereshteh Khosravi and Farzaneh Tavasoli netted deep in extra time to make it 13 wins in 14 matches overall.
