CYCLING – Bahrain Victorious Development Team rider Jakob Omrzel claimed an impressive runner-up finish yesterday in the fifth and final stage of the Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta 2025 in Italy.
The event is a renowned international under-23 race, featuring the sport’s stars of tomorrow battling it out in five stages.
Omrzel climbed onto the podium for the second day in a row after completing the 119.5-kilometre leg right behind winner Jarno Widar of Lotto Development Team. The Slovenian was classified with a similar finishing time of three hours 13 minutes 55 seconds as Widar, as did third-placer Liam O’Brien of Lidl-Trek Future Racing.
With yesterday’s result, Omrzel finished 13th on the general classification to end the race. He was also third on the points rankings with 24, second on the King of the Mountains standings with 37 points, and fourth in the best young rider ranks.
Omrzel is one of the top talents on the Bahrain Victorious Development Team. Just last month, he took the overall win in the 48th Giro d’Italia Next Gen, also held in Italy – the team’s most significant victory in its history. The event, also known as ‘Baby Giro’, is an amateur road race that is one of the most important and formative events on the under-23 international cycling calendar.
Omrzel then went on to triumph in the elite men’s road race at the Slovenian championship, also last month.
