A group of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Bahrain showcased dresses they made during the fifth week of a dress-making workshop.
The seven-week course, organised by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and Pinay Ikaw Na (PIN), aims to equip participants with essential dressmaking skills – from basic pattern drafting to final garment construction.
The group consisted of Evelyn Vergara, Maria Pecundo, Jocelyn Melencion, Josette Palingcod, Lenilla Romco, Marife Reyes, Marites Ramiro and Cecilia Ancheta, out of a total 40 participants.
“After creating my own dress, I really appreciate the skills of a tailor,” said Ms Pecundo.
The 55-year-old from Cagayan Valley, who works as a housekeeping manager in a hotel, added that she has learned various new skills such as how to stitch, connect fabric and unpicking stitches.
“Most of all, I have bonded with my fellow OFWs. Though we come from different backgrounds, we learned to work together and respect each other.”
Meanwhile, PIN president Dinah Sta. Ana highlighted that the training was not just about making dresses; it was about building confidence, opening opportunities and inspiring self-reliance.
The event was part of a broader effort to enhance the skills and confidence of Filipino workers in Bahrain.
