The contributions youth as part of Team Bahrain and their constructive contribution to national achievements were praised yesterday.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa was joined by ministers, Parliament and Shura Council chiefs as well as heads of organisations in praising the progress achieved by youth under Bahrain’s leadership, which reflected the kingdom’s commitment to investing in young people’s potential and integrating them into all fields of development, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Marking International Youth Day, observed annually on August 12, Shaikh Khalid emphasised that youth are the nation’s real asset and a key driver of progress, with their energy and creativity.
He expressed pride in the young people of Bahrain and their achievements, made possible through the support of His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the attention of His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth Affairs and SCYS president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The kingdom’s leadership has provided youth with full support and care, ensuring their empowerment and active participation in building the present and shaping the future, Shaikh Khalid said in a statement.
This has been achieved through a series of programmes and initiatives that have strengthened youth presence across all domains of national development, he added.
Shaikh Khalid commended Youth City 2030, which offers more than 100 diverse training programmes aimed at preparing a generation capable of contributing to sustainable development efforts in the kingdom, empowering young people, and driving change.
Youth City 2030 stands as a distinguished global model reflecting the kingdom’s commitment to developing youth across various sectors.
He highlighted that the GSA and the BOC place youth at the heart of their strategies, in line with the vision of the SCYS under the leadership of Shaikh Nasser. They aim to help youth achieve their goals by improving the sports sector, enhancing champions and sports leaders who will raise the kingdom’s flag at international arenas, he pointed out.
Foreign Minister and National Committee for Human Rights chairman Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani expressed pride in youths’ contribution to achievements in development, human rights and diplomacy, guided by principles of sustainability, justice, and competitiveness.
This aligns with the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026), the National Youth Strategy and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, he said.
They are active partners in advancing comprehensive and sustainable development, the Foreign Minister said in a statement.

He commended government programmes that empower youth and develop their talents, including the Prime Minister’s Fellowship Programme and initiatives by Shaikh Nasser, with the support of Shaikh Khalid and follow-up from the Youth Affairs Ministry, in partnership with the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) and various national bodies.
The minister noted that this year’s celebrations coincide with the ongoing success of Youth City 2030, which offers an integrated environment and high-quality training opportunities to prepare and empower young people.
He praised His Majesty’s visit to the city and his tour of its five specialised centres in science and technology, arts and culture, leadership and entrepreneurship, media and entertainment, and sport and health.
The Foreign Minister also expressed pride in the role of junior diplomatic staff in the Foreign Ministry, embassies, consulates and regional and international organisations, highlighting their contributions as partners in promoting peace, tolerance, human rights and sustainable development.
In a statement marking the day, Youth Affairs Minister Rawan Tawfiqi said that His Majesty’s vision has enabled the youth to showcase their skills in diverse developmental domains, making them an effective national force that contributes to decision-making and leads initiatives efficiently and competently.
She noted that the directives of HRH Prince Salman have strengthened the adoption of initiatives and policies supporting youth and the optimal investment in their energies by continuing to empower them.
She added that the support of Shaikh Nasser is a clear source of inspiration for growth and achievement.
The ministry is keen to continue enhancing a comprehensive and integrated system of programmes and initiatives dedicated to empowering youth and developing their skills, Ms Al Tawfiqi said.
Bahrain’s young people, with their creativity and determination, can help build a stronger, more sustainable society ready to meet future challenges with confidence.
The Youth Affairs Ministry will organise a special national celebration today in commemoration of the day at Youth City 2030.
The event will feature a rich programme reflecting the high status enjoyed by Bahraini youth and highlighting key initiatives supporting their empowerment.
Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam, Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh, Shura and SCYS Secretary-General Aymen Almoayyed also issued statements on the occasion.
They cited key initiatives such as Youth City 2030, the Nasser Bin Hamad International Youth Creativity Award and the Hope Fund as examples of Bahrain’s commitment to a sustainable youth sector, reaffirming the legislature’s co-operation with the executive branch to meet youth aspirations.
