A new one-stop online platform for medical institutions in Bahrain to apply for, and renew, licences has been launched by the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).
The Adweya (Medicine) application has been developed in co-operation with information technology solutions and software services provider Ebit.
Supreme Council for Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, NHRA chief executive Dr Ahmed Al Ansari and Ebit chief executive Mohammed Abu Hassan were present at the launch ceremony at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel Residence and Spa, Manama yesterday.
The app, developed as part of the kingdom’s national digitisation drive, is expected to decrease transaction times by up to 70 per cent, according to Dr Al Ansari.
“Adweya aims to facilitate transactions and improve efficiency as well as reduce waiting times by an estimated 50-70pc.
“Additionally, we wanted to give users the option to view the progress of their transactions and follow up on them, as well as make the entire process clearer.
“We expect it will also reduce the amount of cases of error and mistakes, and give users more control over their processes.”
The new platform will be linked with the online platforms of the Industry and Commerce Ministry, the Information and eGovernment Authority and the National Cybersecurity Centre.
Medical institutions, developers and agencies will be able to apply for and renew their licences online without the need to visit the NHRA. Those wishing to visit the authority can still do so by booking an appointment on the app.
Other services include registration of factories, classification of medication and change and modification requests.
When submitting applications, users will be asked to submit supporting documents, and they can upload files up to 1GB in size. They can track the request anytime, and they will also receive a notification every time there is an update.
Once the request has been complete, licences and certificates will be displayed on the application.
All requests will be processed electronically, with users guaranteed complete privacy, security and transparency.
Additionally, all registered medical institutions will also have the option to pay fines on the platform.
Mr Abu Hassan said that the project was the result of strategic planning by the NHRA to give the best possible services to citizens and residents, and expressed his pride in a Bahraini company being given the opportunity to develop the app.
“The NHRA gave us a clear vision of what it wanted, and it was easy to go from there,” he said.
“It shows Bahrain’s potential in technology and the development of online applications and tools.”
