Government Hospitals confirmed last night that the Civil Defence was able to control a limited fire in a ward at Salmaniya Medical Complex, thanks to the rapid response of Civil Defence teams in co-operation with medical and technical staff on duty at the complex.
The fire, caused by a patient, was contained in record time. Initial information indicates that the patient has a criminal record, including drug abuse, and that he had attempted to harm himself more than once, it said.
“The aforementioned patient suffered minor burns, while another patient suffered smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported among patients, staff, or hospital visitors.
“All necessary preventive measures were taken to ensure the safety of those present in the building, and partial evacuation procedures were implemented in accordance with approved emergency plans.”
Government Hospitals clarified that work at the medical complex is continuing normally. It expressed thanks and appreciation to all parties that contributed to dealing with the incident, most notably the Civil Defence.
It also affirmed continued commitment to applying the highest safety standards within the healthcare facilities and is taking the necessary legal measures.
