FOOTBALL – Bahrain’s youth football national team take on their counterparts from Iraq tonight in the AGCFF U17 Gulf Cup 2025.
The eight-nation regional tournament, organised by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF), is being held in Doha, Qatar, and it continues until October 2.
The Bahrainis and Iraqis are in Group B of the tournament’s preliminary round alongside Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Group A features the UAE, Oman, Yemen, and hosts Qatar.
The nationals are coming off a heavy 0-4 defeat against Saudi in their opening assignment and will be looking to bounce back today.
Their match is scheduled for an 8pm kick-off, Bahrain time, and it will be played at Doha’s Suheim bin Hamad Stadium.
Saudi and Kuwait face off in the evening’s other encounter, scheduled for a 6pm start, also Bahrain.
The kingdom’s representatives have a 23-player squad in the Qatari capital. They are coached by Croatian tactician Ugo Klingor, who supervised their training session last night ahead of their crucial clash today.
Bahrain’s roster includes Hussain Zuhair, Anas Mohammed, Abdulrahman Majed, Haitham Shafi, Hussain Zainuddin, Bader Abdulaziz, Idris Al Mansoor, Khaled Al Khaja, Eyad Mustafa, Jassim Ben Jamea, Karrar Huwaida, Komail Al Satrawi, Mohammed Al Hassouni, Hussain Amir, Mohammed Salah, Mohammed Al Jazzaf, Ali Al Oraibi, Ahmed Hani, Jaafar Sadeq, Sayed Hassan Al Mosawi, and goalkeepers Abdulla Khalil, Hussain Al Majed, and Rashed Al Khalaqi.
Following their game tonight, Bahrain complete their preliminary round schedule against Kuwait on Friday at 6pm, Bahrain time, at the same venue.
At the end of the ongoing single round-robin, the top two teams from each group move on to the semi-finals.
Apart from the AGCFF U17 Gulf Cup 2025, the Bahrainis will also be taking part in the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers, which are set to be held from November 22 to 30.
They are one of 38 teams vying for just seven available places in the continental competition, which will be held next year from May 7 to 24 in Saudi Arabia.
