The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Bahrain Medical University (RCSI Bahrain) welcomed a delegation from the Muharraq Governorate and Primary Healthcare Centres last week to kick off a campaign to raise awareness around breast cancer during the international month dedicated to the cause.
As part of their joint efforts for breast cancer awareness month, the visit highlighted a shared commitment to advancing community health through collaboration and preventive care.
The campaign offers a free breast examination service on the RCSI Bahrain campus to support early detection among Muharraq residents throughout October.
Under the supervision of Primary Healthcare Centres family medicine physician Dr Sara Altamimi, medical students volunteered to assist with appointment management and clinical observation.
In addition, 108 student volunteers dedicated more than 60 hours of community service to organising on-campus fundraising activities in support of Think Pink Bahrain and the Bahrain Cancer Society.
RCSI Bahrain president Professor Sameer Otoom, accompanied by members of the University management, extended appreciation to Muharraq Governorate deputy governor Brigadier Jassim Al Ghatam, Primary Healthcare Centres maternal and child health chief Dr Mona Almehri, Dr Altamimi, and Muharraq Governorate information director Fawaz Yousef Alabdullah for their leadership and partnership in supporting the initiative.
