TWO new tugboats designed to support operational activities at Khalifa Bin Salman Port were inaugurated yesterday.
The event was attended by officials from the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry as well as representatives from Svitzer and APM Terminals Bahrain.
The inauguration of Svitzer Manama and Svitzer Awal marks an important step towards strengthening the efficiency and reliability of maritime and logistics services in Bahrain, said Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, who took part in the ceremony organised by Svitzer, one of the world’s leading marine towage companies.
He said the addition of the two tugboats reflects the kingdom’s commitment to developing its infrastructure in line with international standards, in support of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
Dr Shaikh Abdulla noted that this achievement highlights the fruitful partnership between the public and private sectors in developing the maritime transport industry. He added that the deployment of the two tugboats will improve towage and manoeuvring operations for large vessels, enhance port safety, and keep pace with the expansion of regional and international trade activity.
He added that government directives focus on building a modern, integrated infrastructure that connects Bahrain with global markets. He added that investing in new tugboats supports the kingdom’s goal of increasing its capacity to handle expected growth in trade volume and strengthening logistics links with GCC countries, maintaining Bahrain’s role as a vital gateway for regional and global trade.
Svitzer presented the advanced technical features of the two tugboats, which are built to the latest international specifications. The vessels are equipped with dual azimuth thrusters that provide high manoeuvrability and precise control in various marine conditions.
