BASKETBALL – QATAR and Mongolia opened the boys’ basketball 3x3 competition yesterday by winning all their games at the Bahrain Basketball Association Arena in Um Al Hassam.
The Qataris opened their medal bid in Pool C of the preliminary round beating Cambodia 21-7. They then defeated Thailand 22-17 before completing a perfect day with a 21-20 triumph against Uzbekistan.
Mongolia triumphed twice in Pool A, first outclassing Turkmenistan 21-11 before winning with a similar 21-11 score line against Chinese Taipei.
Bahrain begin their schedule today in Pool B against Indonesia at 6.20pm and then against Kyrgyzstan at 8.40pm.
In the girls’ 3x3 tournament, Chinese Taipei swept their four assignments yesterday. They first won 21-7 against Jordan and then routed the UAE 21-3. They then beat China 21-17 before powering past Kazakhstan 21-9.
