FOOTBALL – AL Najma secured their first victory of the 2025-26 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League last night after defeating Al Shabab 2-0 in their week six match.
Mohamed Abdulqayoom and Ali Al Dosseri were on target for the winners on either side of the break. Abdulqayoom put them ahead in the 24th minute, and then Al Dosseri applied the dagger four minutes from the final whistle.
Najma improved to five points after two draws and three losses in their opening five games. They handed Shabab their third defeat as they are also on five points on the standings.
In yesterday’s other game, Budaiya claimed a late winner in a 2-1 upset against Hidd.
Abdulla Al Bahrani gave his side the three points with a goal in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time.
Brazilian Adriano Soares Filgueira had earlier put Budaiya in front in the sixth minute, but Hidd equalised through Bekaye Wade from Mauritania in the 29th. Budaiya went to eight points with their second win in six tries, while Hidd suffered their first loss and stayed on nine points.
League play continues tonight with Al Khaldiya taking on Riffa at 7pm.
