Bahrain and Oman need to step up their co-operation to meet the accelerating security challenges, Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said yesterday.
The minister called for enhanced joint mechanisms and security partnership in accordance with the Security Co-operation Agreement between the governments of Bahrain and Oman.
Gen Shaikh Rashid commended the high level of co-ordination in combating transnational organised crime during a meeting with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi.
Upon arrival at the Police Fort, Minister Al Busaidi was received by the Deputy Interior Minister, the Public Security chief and several senior Interior Ministry officials, while the Guard of Honour performed the ceremonial salute.
Gen Shaikh Rashid said that the visit reflects the long-standing ties between the two countries and their peoples, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman.
The Omani minister commended the historical relations between the two countries.
He underlined their commitment to develop co-operation in all domains, especially in the security field.
The Omani minister emphasised the importance of mutual visits to enhance security co-ordination, unify positions and address current and future security challenges.
He highlighted the necessity of combined efforts to counter all negative phenomena arising from various forms of crime.
During the discussions, several key security topics were reviewed to enhance co-ordination, building on achievements aimed at improving performance in response to fast-changing regional and international security developments.
At the conclusion, the two ministers exchanged commemorative gifts.
The Omani minister also signed the visitors’ book, expressing his pleasure at visiting the ministry and meeting with his counterpart.
