Bahrain’s hosting of the 46th GCC Summit marks a pivotal step towards advancing economic integration and enhancing the Gulf region’s global competitiveness, according to a senior Bahraini legislator.
Shura Council financial and economic affairs committee chairman Khalid Al Maskati praised the decision to convene the event in Manama.
“The holding of the GCC Summit in Bahrain embodies His Majesty’s farsighted vision for enhancing Gulf co-operation and consolidating a unified, integrated partnership among member states,” he said.
“It reflects Bahrain’s active role in supporting regional cohesion and our shared destiny as GCC nations.”
He said the summit comes at a pivotal moment for the region, amid rapid global and regional economic changes that call for closer collaboration among Gulf economies.
“The current phase, with its dynamic economic developments, requires more co-ordinated fiscal and economic policies, as well as modern legislation that supports sustainable growth and enhances the attractiveness of the Gulf investment environment,” Mr Maskati said.
He highlighted the importance of unified Gulf initiatives in driving competitiveness.
“The summit lays the groundwork for unified economic initiatives – especially in diversifying revenue sources, developing shared infrastructure, expanding logistical networks, and reinforcing economic resilience,” he said.
“Such steps will elevate the GCC’s global economic competitiveness.”
Mr Al Maskati also emphasised the Shura Council’s appreciation for the ongoing collaboration between Bahrain’s legislative and executive authorities, alongside continuous co-ordination with other GCC parliaments.
“Together, we are working to develop modern economic legislation that keeps pace with global shifts and strengthens the path of joint Gulf action, ensuring prosperity for our peoples,” he added.
