A black bear at Hangzhou Safari Park in East China’s Zhejiang Province knocked a zookeeper to the ground after being attracted by a bag of food the keeper was carrying, park authorities said.
Neither the zookeeper nor the bear was injured.
Officials explained that the keeper had been carrying carrots and apples, and the bear appeared to be triggered by the smell of the treats. Excited, it jumped onto the keeper in an attempt to reach the food.
Videos circulating on social media show the bear knocking the keeper down and focusing on the snacks.
Zoo staff rushed in and, after a prolonged struggle using whatever was at hand, including a basketball hoop, sticks, chairs, and stools, managed to separate the animal from the keeper.
The zookeeper eventually escaped just as the bear attempted to lunge at him again.
