Bahrain is dazzling in red and white as it prepares to commemorate its 54th National Day tomorrow.
The nation has united in celebration, with vibrant lights and festive installations adorning landmarks across the island.
Iconic monuments, such as the Riffa Clock Tower roundabout, are draped in the national colours, while areas like Isa Town and Zallaq sparkle under decorative lighting – an annual spectacle cherished by both Bahrainis and expatriates alike.
Bahrain National Day, celebrated on December 16, marks the founding of the modern Bahraini state in 1783 and December 17 honours the accession of His Majesty King Hamad to the throne.
In the spirit of these historic events, numerous activities are being staged throughout December, continuing until the end of the month.
Every year, the fireworks display remains the most anticipated highlight, drawing crowds of enthusiastic spectators across the kingdom to witness the night sky ablaze with colour.
Tomorrow, spectators can enjoy this dazzling show at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, starting at 7pm. Entry is free, and food kiosks will be available on-site, ensuring a fun and relaxing evening for families and friends.
The Northern Governorate will continue its National Day programmes with a traditional Ardha performance to be staged in Budaiya on Wednesday. Ardha – meaning ‘to parade’ – is an Arabian folk style symbolising strength, unity and heritage, performed with swords and accompanied by drums and poetry.
Other public events include the Bahrain Police Parade at Abu Subh Coast and the Bahrain Police Band performance at District 1 Mall – both on December 20.
The third edition of ‘Nation Children’ will be organised at Al Liwan shopping centre in Hamala, featuring music, patriotic movie screenings and more. Last year’s festivities included a film that highlighted the kingdom’s accomplishments under the leadership of His Majesty, another movie commemorating Bahrain Police Day observed on December 14, along with the Bahrain Police Band performance.
The Southern Governorate is staging a cultural event today at Khalifa Grand Garden in Bukuwara, East Riffa, as part of its ongoing activities for National Day. The event will feature heritage crafts and other local vendors, from cafes to Bahraini businesses registered under the Social Development Ministry’s Productive Families programme.
Earlier this month, the Southern Governorate launched its sixth annual national radio competition, in co-operation with Radio Bahrain, which runs until December 16. The event seeks to revive the kingdom’s rich historical heritage, with a daily themed question aired on the radio station and announced via the governorate’s Al Janabiyah mobile application. Winners will be selected through an electronic draw @southerngov_bh on Instagram on December 20 and stand the chance to receive valuable prizes.
The Capital Governorate has been hosting a range of celebrations since the beginning of this month, including sporting, cultural and community programmes. Art exhibitions and heritage events were also held. Additionally, the governorate joined the celebrations staged by various educational institutions and social organisations.
The GDN previously reported that ministries, government departments and public establishments will remain closed on December 16 and 17.
