BASKETBALL – Bahrain champions Muharraq roared to a sensational 92-64 rout of Kazma SC from Kuwait last night in the 2025-26 Fiba West Asia Super League (WASL).
The Bahrainis built a commanding double-digit advantage in the first quarter and never wavered – enjoying leads as big as a massive 42 points at the Bahrain Basketball Association Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex.
Kazma had no answer for the Muharraq attack who were firing on all cylinders.
Nicholas Simon West poured in a game-high 30 points in the win.
He was an efficient 11-for-19 from the field, and he also grabbed 16 rebounds in the contest.
Timothy Lamont Bond Jr added 21 points for Muharraq, while Mohammed Ameer chipped in with 17 and Kerwin Roach Jr had 14.
Strahinja Micovic paced Kazma in the loss with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Ahmad Albaloushi and Jajuan Johnson contributed 13 apiece.
Muharraq used a resounding 14-1 run in the first quarter to take a comfortable 25-10 cushion into the second, where they extended their lead to 45-20 at the break.
Muharraq then went ahead by 42 following a Bond Jr lay-up with a minute remaining in the third, helping them go into the final frame up 75-35.
They then cruised the rest of the way for the big result.
Last night’s game was the fourth for Muharraq in Group A of the Fiba WASL’s Gulf sub-zone.
They improved to a 2-2 win-loss record to rise to second on the standings, while Kazma dropped to 1-3 in last place.
Ittihad Club from Saudi Arabia are currently atop the table with three wins from four games, while right behind Muharraq are Shabab Al Ahli from Dubai, who also boast a 2-2 record but Muharraq have a superior points difference.
Muharraq only get back onto the Fiba WASL hardwood early next year, when they play at home against Shabab Al Ahli on January 12.
They then complete their preliminary round schedule against Ittihad away in Saudi on January 19.
Muharraq need to finish in the top three of their pool in order to stay in contention for the title.
The top-ranked side at the end of this stage advances directly to the Gulf semi-finals, while the second and third-ranked teams clash in a play-off round.
The top three teams in the Gulf sub-zone will earn direct berths in this year’s Fiba WASL Final Eight to determine the overall champions.
Muharraq are the only Bahraini side competing in this year’s Fiba WASL.
Group B in the Gulf sub-zone features Kuwait SC from Kuwait, Al Ula Club from Saudi, Sharjah SC of the UAE, and Al Arabi SC from Qatar.
