Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, held a telephone call with His Excellency Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, where she condemned Iran’s actions and described them as putting global economic stability at risk.
In a post on the 'X' platform, Von der Leyen stated that she discussed with HE Prime Minister Starmer, in particular, the situation in the Middle East and the challenges related to the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the repercussions thereof on the stability of the global economy.
She added that the European Union will work in cooperation with its international partners to ensure the resumption of freedom of navigation in the Strait as soon as possible, given its extreme importance to global trade and energy security.
Von der Leyen explained that the discussions also highlighted the upcoming EU-UK Summit, which she described as a significant opportunity to carry out the commitments established last year and to bolster the partnership between the two parties.
