BASKETBALL – AL Hala came away with a hard-earned 78-75 victory over Al Ahli last night to wrap up gameweek nine in the 2025-26 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Hussain Jan scored with a crucial driving lay-up to give his team a 77-73 lead and just over a minute to play, but Elijah Thomas answered right away for Ahli to make it a one-possession game once again.
Hala then managed to hold on to their slim advantage until the final buzzer, and veteran guard Mohammed Hussain pegged the final score with a split from the free-throw line and only seven seconds left on the game clock.
Hala led by as many as 18 points in the second half before staving off the late Ahli comeback. The two-point margin was as close as Ahli got in the final frame, with Hala doing enough to eke out the victory.
Shaheed Davis was their leading scorer with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Hussain chipped in with 17 points and Jan 10.
Ahli skipper Mohammed Qurban had 20 points to pace his team in defeat. Hesham Sarhan contributed 16 and Tevin Glass had 15 and 11 boards.
With the result, Hala claimed only their third victory in nine outings so far in the league’s top-tier premier division. They also handed Ahli their fifth loss to go with four wins.
League action continues on Tuesday.
