HORSERACING – PRIME Minister’s Court Minister and Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa reviewed the club’s preparations for the upcoming His Majesty the King’s Cup Festival, scheduled for Thursday and Friday next week at REHC.
The review took place as Shaikh Isa attended the 21st meeting of the 2025-26 season at REHC, which featured cups named after His Majesty the King’s personal representative Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Shaikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Shaikh Sultan bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, as well as the Horse Welfare Authority Cup.
The event was also attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman, Supreme Council for Environment vice-president and REHC High Committee deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and Shaikh Salman bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with several other esteemed guests.
Winners of the cups were honoured as Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman presented the HH Shaikh Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Apprentice Cup to Labalaba’s winning trainer Adel Abdullah.
Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed awarded the HH Shaikh Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup to Shaikh Sultan Al Deen bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, representing race winner Chimgan.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa presented the HH Shaikh Sultan Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Waho Cup to Rabdan 1943’s Abdullah and the HH Shaikh Khalifa Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup to Lady Hurricane’s triumphant trainer Paul Smith.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Salman bin Abdullah awarded the HH Shaikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup to San Diego’s winning owner Abdullah Fawzi Nass.
REHC High Committee member and acting CEO Yusuf Osama Buheji presented the HH Shaikh Sultan Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup to Whathappensinvegas winning trainer Ali Jan and the HH Shaikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Salman Al Khalifa Cup to Al Nader’s winning owner Abduljalil Salman Hasan.
Finally, Horse Welfare Authority CEO Yousif Al Essa presented the Horse Welfare Authority Cup to Dream Out Loud’s winning owner Hasan Mefareh Alajmi.
Next weekend’s two-day His Majesty the King’s Cup Festival will be headlined by the $400,000 HM the King’s Cup – a Group Three race on Friday to be held over 2,400m for imported horses. There will also be the Listed Al Methaq Mile the same evening, offering $120,000 in prize money and to be contested over 1,600m by an imported field.
On Thursday, the card will be highlighted by the final two races in the 2025-26 Bahrain Turf Series, each offering $100,000 in prize money. These include The International Handicap, to be run over 2,000m, and the Al Fateh Cup sponsored by Bapco Energies, to be held over a 1,2000m straight. Both events are for imported horses.
