Bahrain has launched a high-level national committee tasked with documenting what officials described as the kingdom’s ‘epic of national resilience’ following the recent Iranian attacks, in a landmark move aimed at preserving one of the country’s most significant modern national security chapters for future generations.
The move comes under Royal Order No 20 of 2026, issued by His Majesty King Hamad, establishing the National Resilience Documentation Committee.
According to the order published in Bahrain’s Official Gazette, the newly formed body will be responsible for monitoring and documenting what was officially described as the ‘brutal Iranian attacks’ faced by the kingdom, while preserving records of the country’s institutional response, public solidarity and national defence efforts.
The committee will be chaired by Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, who is also chairman of the board of trustees of Bahrain Centre for Strategic International and Energy Studies ‘Derasat’.
Representatives from 10 major national institutions will serve as members, including the Royal Court, Bahrain Defence Force, and the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Affairs, Information, and Education, alongside the National Communication Centre and the National Archives Centre.
Under the Royal Order, the committee has been given a broad mandate focused on preserving Bahrain’s national memory surrounding the attacks and documenting the collective response mounted by state institutions and society.
Its responsibilities include recording all forms of institutional resilience, defence operations and public solidarity, while creating what will become an official national record supported by verified evidence and documentation standards.
The final archive will be permanently deposited within Bahrain’s National Archives system.
Authorities said the initiative aims to strengthen institutional national memory by creating a documented narrative reflecting the unity between the country’s leadership and people during times of national challenge.
The committee will also prepare official educational, media and research materials to ensure the events become part of Bahrain’s documented modern history.
Among its key powers are designing the overall documentation framework, setting standards for collecting and classifying records, determining which materials may be publicly released under national security laws and approving final documentation outputs.
The committee has additionally been authorised to seek assistance from outside experts and specialists whenever necessary.
The Royal Order took immediate effect from the date of issuance at Riffa Palace.
The initiative signals Bahrain’s determination to ensure that the events surrounding the Iranian attacks – and the national response that followed – are permanently preserved as a defining chapter in the kingdom’s modern history.
