A public park at the heart of one of Bahrain’s most cosmopolitan districts is set for a major makeover under a new agreement aimed at raising the standard of municipal facilities through private sector partnership.
The Capital Trustees Authority (Municipality) has signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday with the Bahraini Kuwaiti Insurance Company (BKIC) to renovate and maintain the Seef Public Park, a 5,770sqm green space in the bustling Seef District.
The park, located in a densely populated and commercially active area surrounded by residential buildings, offices and shopping destinations, is expected to benefit from landscaping improvements, upgraded amenities and regular maintenance under the agreement.
The signing took place in the presence of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak, Municipal Affairs Undersecretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Capital Trustees Board chairman Saleh Tarradah, Capital Trustees Authority director-general Alya Yousif, and BKIC chief executive Dr Abdulla Sultan.
The agreement is part of a broader push to enhance municipal services and upgrade public amenities across the Capital Governorate by working closely with the private sector.
The park upgrade will focus on comprehensive maintenance and development works designed to enhance the urban landscape, improve visitor experience and ensure the long-term sustainability of facilities.
Mr Al Mubarak described the agreement as an important step in strengthening partnerships with the private sector in the development and management of public amenities.
He said such co-operation contributes to raising the efficiency of municipal services and supports ongoing plans to upgrade parks and recreational spaces in line with modern and sustainable standards.
Municipal officials believe the initiative will serve as a model for similar partnerships across Bahrain, where private companies can play a role in upgrading and maintaining public spaces while contributing to community wellbeing.
Shaikh Mohammed said partnerships with private entities played a vital role in improving municipal services and enhancing the management of public facilities in a way that meets the expectations of citizens and residents.
He noted that the agreement would contribute significantly to upgrading Seef Park as one of the key projects within the Capital.
Mr Tarradah said the agreement represented a valuable addition to the Capital’s journey in improving municipal services.
He stressed the Capital Trustees Board’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that contribute to developing parks and recreational facilities while raising the level of services provided to the public.
Ms Yousif said the agreement aligns with the ministry’s direction to reinforce public-private partnerships and support initiatives that enhance the sustainability of public facilities and improve infrastructure across the Capital.
She added that the authority was keen to expand co-operation with private institutions to provide an attractive recreational environment for visitors and park-goers.
Dr Sultan expressed pride in BKIC’s participation in what he described as a community-focused project, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting development initiatives and corporate social responsibility programmes that serve society.
