A workshop on humanitarian response and radiological safety was organised by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS).
The online seminar, titled ‘The Environmental Dimension and Humanitarian Response in Crisis Management and Radiological Safety’, was held as part of efforts to strengthen professional and community awareness of crisis response mechanisms.
It was led by the society’s board member Dr Nilofer Jahromi alongside Kuwait Society for Crisis and Emergency Management chairman Dr Fawzi Al Khawari and Dr Hanan Al Dosari, a certified trainer in radiological and nuclear incidents in Kuwait.
The workshop brought together a select group of specialists and experts who addressed several key themes of growing relevance to the region, particularly in light of emerging environmental, technological and industrial challenges.
Discussions covered crisis management strategies, including practical models and effective plans for responding to emergencies in the Gulf region.
A dedicated session on radiological security introduced the fundamentals of radiological and nuclear safety, outlining preventive measures and appropriate response procedures for incidents involving radiation.
The workshop further explored community readiness, with participants discussing ways to raise awareness among individuals and families, promoting a culture of rapid response, and encourage sound practices when dealing with crises.
The Society affirmed that the workshop forms part of its ongoing plan to build the capacity of volunteers and staff, and to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian response, particularly amid increasing environmental challenges.
