If there was ever any doubt that Metallica is one of the most famous bands on Earth, their recent concert in Greece has just caused seismic vibrations.
Over 80,000 fans filled the OAKA stadium in Athens on Saturday night to headbang and jump along to Metallica's first concert in Greece in 16 years. The fans were so enthusiastic that they caused several minor "concert quakes".
The phenomenon was recorded and confirmed by the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens. Such vibrations are typically caused by the synchronised dancing and jumping of tens of thousands of fans during a musical performance.
The vibrations caused by the Metallica concert were not strong enough for residents living near the stadium to feel them, according to the National Earthquake Planning & Protection Organisation. They were only detected by highly sensitive seismographs.
