A planned high-speed rail project between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has been approved by Kuwait’s Municipal Council.
The project will connect the capitals of both nations, with a high-speed train directly linking Kuwait City and Riyadh.
The Kuwaiti section of the track will extend 85km from the southwestern border at Nuwaiseeb to Shadadiya, in Farwaniya. The network will stretch more than 500km into Saudi Arabia, effectively cutting travel time between the two capitals to less than two hours, compared to the current seven-hour drive.
The line forms part of the wider 2,200km GCC railway network aimed at connecting all six Gulf nations by rail. Both the Saudi-Kuwait line and the broader regional network are expected to be operational by 2030.
