ATHLETICS – Bahrain's superstar sprinter and former world indoor champion Kemi Adekoya will be running the women’s 400 metres hurdles tonight at the Doha leg of this year’s Diamond League – the premier one-day meeting series held annually by World Athletics, track and field’s international governing body.
Elite athletes from around the world are set to descend on the Qatari capital to compete in the high-profile event.
Adekoya’s race is scheduled for an 8.04pm start, Bahrain time.
She is one of eight participants.
The field is spearheaded by Emma Zapletalova of Slovakia, Rushell Clayton of Jamaica, and Gianna Woodruff of Panama – all of whom have run sub-53 seconds in the 400m hurdles this season.
The other athletes are Eileen Demes of Germany, Ayomide Folorunso of Italy, Ashley Miller of Zimbabwe, and Amalie Iuel of Norway.
Adekoya heads into the race with a 2026 best of 53.71s, which she clocked earlier this month in the USATF Lone Star Grand Prix in Texas, the US – a race that she won.
The 33-year-old has already competed in a number of international meets this outdoor campaign, but it will be her season debut in the Diamond League.
Aside from competing on athletics’ international circuit this year, Adekoya is also expected to be amongst the top medal hopefuls of Bahrain’s athletics national team that will be going for gold at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, scheduled for September 19 to October 4.
