Global trust in the news has dropped to a record low of 37 per cent, according to a new report from Reuters Institute.
Many people now get their news from social media and video platforms, despite trust in social media news being only 22pc.
Use of AI chatbots for news is rising, especially among younger people, but trust in those is even lower at 20pc.
Data points to audience anxiety, disengagement and cynicism but finds that impartial, reliable journalism is still valued.
The findings come from a survey of almost 100,000 people across 48 countries.
