MOTORSPORT – Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport will have their three cars in strong grid positions in today’s 24 Hours of Spa – the fourth round of the 2026 GT World Challenge (GTWC) Europe being held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
2 Seas’ Daniel Juncadella, Chris Lulham, and Jules Gounon in their number three Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo secured fourth in the overall starting order and third amongst Pro class competitors after participating in the meeting’s Superpole session, held yesterday.
Superpole was contested between the top 32 cars from qualifying, which took place across four sessions on Thursday evening and featuring the weekend’s full 70-car field.
Meanwhile, 2 Seas’ number 222 and number 33 crews will be amongst the leaders in the GTWC Europe’s Bronze category.
The number 222 car, driven by the quartet of Charles Dawson, Kiern Jewiss, Reece Barr, and Garnet Patterson, qualified third in class and 44th overall; while 2 Seas’ number 33 challenger, shared between Scott Noble, Lewis Williamson, Jason Hart, and Aaron Walker, took 13th amongst Bronze runners and 62nd overall.
Today’s 24 Hours of Spa is scheduled to flag off at 5.30pm, Bahrain time.
The chequered flag will then come down at the same time tomorrow after a full day of racing in daylight and nighttime conditions.
2 Seas are operating their number three Mercedes-AMG in cooperation with Team Verstappen Racing, owned by four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen.
They clocked a quickest lap time of two minutes 19.218 seconds during Superpole to secure their spot on the grid’s second row.
They were just 0.888 seconds from overall and Pro class pole-sitters AF Corse, whose number 51 crew were behind the wheel of their Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo.
During Thursday’s qualifying, 2 Seas’ number 222 crew had a best average lap time of 2:19.110.
The number 33 contenders were not far behind with a best average mark of 2:19.310.
Kessel Racing were quickest on the combined qualifying timesheet amongst the Bronze runners.
They had a best average lap time of 2:18.448 for 30th overall, earning them a place in Superpole as the only team from the Bronze class.
They went on yesterday to claim an impressive seventh on the overall grid.
The 2026 GTWC Europe calendar features 10 rounds – five events each in endurance and sprint.
This weekend’s meeting marks the third of the endurance meetings, with the first two already held in France and Italy and two more to follow in Germany this August and in Portugal in October.
A sprint weekend has already taken place in the UK, with others to follow in Italy in July, in France in July and August, in the Netherlands in September, and in Spain in October.
