BASKETBALL – Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) president Eng Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa received women’s basketball national team star Bayan Salman, who is set to make national sporting history by becoming the first-ever women’s player from the kingdom to compete in the first division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the US.
Salman will be playing as a student-athlete with the South Carolina-based Charleston Southern University Buccaneers.
Shaikh Mohammed congratulated Salman on this achievement and wished her success in her playing experience, which she will undertake while pursuing her Master of Business Administration degree.
Shaikh Mohammed emphasised that the participation of Bahraini players in prestigious university sports programmes reflects the development of basketball in the kingdom.
He affirmed the BBA’s commitment to supporting national talents in all their endeavours and assisting them in achieving the best results while representing Bahrain on the international stage.
Salman expressed her thanks and appreciation to Shaikh Mohammed and the BBA board for the reception, and stressed that getting the opportunity to compete in NCAA division one women’s basketball is an important milestone in her young career.
