A great-grandmother was left stunned after receiving a lifetime ban from every Sainsbury's and Argos store in the UK, all because of a dispute with a staff member that she says has been blown out of proportion.
79-year-old Rita Seymour, from Hampshire, was trying to buy a lottery ticket at her local Sainsbury's when the dispute happened.
Seymour says she asked a staff member for a ticket several times before hearing them say over a headset that "this customer is being rude to me."
The situation escalated quickly, with the store manager and staff surrounding her and yelling at her. The manager then attempted to use a body-worn camera to record what was happening. Seymour admitted to knocking the camera from the manager's hand, but insists she had done nothing wrong.
Seymour was also accused of stealing from the store, and had to produce her receipt before she was escorted out.
On returning the next day, Seymour was handed a letter informing her that she had been banned from all Sainsbury's and Argos stores in the UK, including any petrol stations or car parks owned by the chain.
Sainsbury's claims the decision was made following a number of incidents over time, which Seymour denies.
Seymour says she hopes to overturn the decision, especially because she now has to walk over 30 minutes to do her weekly shopping.
