A passenger at Indianapolis International Airport thought he was being clever when he tried to smuggle two live smoke grenades through airport security by concealing them in a jar of peanut butter.
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checked-baggage officers reportedly made the bizarre discovery after noticing something off during an X-ray screening of the checked luggage.
TSA officers inspected the bag and found two live smoke grenades, one of which was "jammed into a full jar of peanut butter," according to a press release.
Bomb technicians were called in to dispose of the devices.
TSA then paged the passenger back to the ticket counter. According to the passenger, a friend told him he could get smoke grenades through checked-baggage screenings by placing them in a jar of peanut butter.
TSA has not identified the passenger, nor said whether he has been charged with any crime.
