Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening GCC integration in the municipal sector through exchanging expertise, encouraging innovative initiatives, enhancing services and supporting sustainable urban development has been stressed.
Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak said that the GCC Municipal Award provides an important platform for promoting excellence and innovation in municipal work.
He was addressing a meeting of the judging committee for the sixth edition of the GCC Municipal Award (2025-2026).
Bahrain, represented by the ministry, hosted the two-day meeting of the judging committee for the sixth edition of the award (2025-2026), which ended yesterday.
He said the award highlights successful municipal experiences, and sharing best practices to improve services, enhance the urban environment, and support sustainable development goals across the GCC.
The meeting evaluated submissions based on the approved criteria ahead of selecting the winning projects and initiatives representing the best municipal practices in member states.
The sixth edition of the award received 39 entries from municipalities across GCC member states, reflecting continued progress in adopting initiatives and projects that support urban sustainability and innovation in the municipal sector.
The sixth edition of the award focuses on sustainable urban tree-planting practices, covering city beautification, expanding green spaces, the use of modern tree-planting technologies, advanced irrigation methods, recycled water, community engagement, and the role of tree-planting in improving air quality and the urban environment.
The winners will be announced during the meeting of GCC ministers responsible for municipal affairs, scheduled for September.
