A woman was sentenced to a month in prison on charges of ‘publicly disrespecting a religion and disparaging its rituals’ by the Lower Criminal Court.
According to the Public Prosecution yesterday, the woman had made a comment on an Instagram post containing ‘sectarian sentences that sow discord’, and the Cybercrimes Directorate launched an investigation and identified her.
When questioned, she admitted to being the person behind the account, and that she wrote the comment.
She was charged and referred to criminal trial, where judges ruled to jail her and confiscate the device she used to make the comment.
