A top official yesterday visited Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB) in Sakhir as part of a tour of three of the biggest summer events in the kingdom, including a play that was last held in Bahrain more than 30 years ago.
Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi visited the cast of the beloved Kuwaiti play The Haunted House, along with Youth City 2030 and the Bahrain Summer Toy Festival 2026.
During the tour, Ms Al Sairafi said she was proud to see the kingdom hosting three major events that bring in people from not just the kingdom, but also across the GCC to boost Bahrain’s tourism sector.
“I am more than happy to be at EWB, which is hosting some major summer events,” she said.
“There are a variety of events including a theatrical production, skills-development activities and sports activities in store for everyone.
“Today, we have seen visitors, not just from Bahrain, but also from other GCC countries, which shows that our recent summer campaign has been a success.
“One of the most important activities currently going on is the Bahrain Summer Toy Festival 2026, which has played a major role in promoting family tourism.
“Youth City 2030, meanwhile, acts as a prominent platform to help youth build on their skills and passion.”
Meanwhile, for the first time since 1996, the kingdom will host the Kuwaiti play The Haunted House, a comedic horror show, led by artist and producer Abdulaziz Al Musallam. The first show was held last night and it will run until Saturday.
It is about a man who buys a mysterious house on Block 6, Street 6, House 6, and has been a regional favourite for decades.
With more than 200 live performances and 165,000 attendees across the GCC, and later experienced by millions on television and digital platforms, The Haunted House has become an unforgettable landmark in Gulf and Arab theatre.
“The Haunted House is one of the most significant theatrical productions in the region,” said Ms Al Sairafi.
“We are incredibly happy to have them with us during this period.
“We are hoping that they become a mainstay in Bahraini tourism, especially during the summer season, because it is a beloved production in the kingdom and abroad.”
Speaking to media personnel during the tour, Mr Al Musallam said that he was excited to host the play in the kingdom for the first time in more than three decades, and he wants to put on a show that the Bahraini people will enjoy.
“The entire team is happy to be here again,” said Mr Al Musallam.
“Ever since we got off the plane, whether we were at Hidd, Muharraq or Riffa, we have felt at home.
“We thank His Majesty King Hamad for having us for the next few days and giving us the chance to entertain the lovely people of this kingdom.
“We are living in extraordinary circumstances, and we want to show our resilience, our passion and our dedication to entertaining the Bahraini people.”
