MOTORSPORT – Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport secured an incredible double pole yesterday in an overall front-row lockout for the first race of round six in the 2026 GT World Challenge (GTWC) Europe, being held at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France.
2 Seas’ number three Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, driven by Andorran-French Jules Gounon and Spaniard Daniel Juncadella, captured the leading grid position in the 45-car field while also heading the series’ Pro category.
2 Seas’ number 222 Mercedes-AMG, meanwhile, with the British duo of Kiern Jewiss and Charles Dawson sharing the driving duties, qualified second overall while taking Bronze class pole to complete the team’s sensational first qualifying session of the race weekend.
Gounon was in their car – operated by 2 Seas in collaboration with Team Verstappen Racing, owned by four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen – when he set qualifying one’s fastest mark of one minute 36.023 seconds.
Jewiss followed suit, powering the number 222 contender to a best lap time of 1:36.189 – just 0.166 seconds behind their pace-setting teammates.
The meeting’s first of two hour-long races was held late last night at Magny-Cours, missing our deadlines.
A second qualifying will take place today ahead of race two, which is scheduled to flag off at 4.30pm, Bahrain time.
2 Seas, co-owned by Bahrain’s Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, are competing with their two-car entry for the full 2026 calendar of the GTWC Europe, which features a total of 10 rounds including both sprint and endurance meetings.
This weekend’s events mark the third sprint round of the campaign, following the first in the UK in June and the second in Italy last month.
The fourth will be in the Netherlands in September and the sprint finale will be in Spain in October.
Endurance meetings have also already taken place in France, Italy, and Belgium, with two more scheduled for this month in Germany and October in Portugal.
