A woman in Kuwait has been arrested after allegedly attempting to steal a gold bracelet worth KD500 (approx. BD610) and claiming it simply "fell into her bag" when caught.
The alleged theft occurred in Kuwait’s Al Mubarakiya market, where the suspect, wearing a niqab, managed to distract a shopkeeper before swiping the piece.
Less than 48 hours later, she attempted to sell the bracelet at another jewellery shop in Farwaniya. The owner noticed it matched the description of the stolen item and alerted detectives, who rushed to the scene and apprehended her.
When questioned, the woman initially maintained that the bracelet had accidentally fallen into her bag. However, after officers confronted her with CCTV footage, she confessed to the crime.
She further admitted to targeting several other gold shops over several months using the same tactic, having already sold numerous stolen items.
Detectives are pursuing the owner of a gold shop suspected of knowingly purchasing the stolen goods, as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the operation.
The woman has been referred to the relevant authorities for legal action.
