Bahrain’s Agricultural Incubator Centre in Hoorat A’Ali is playing a pivotal role in developing national talent, promoting modern farming technologies and fostering agricultural entrepreneurship, a top minister has said.
During his visit to the centre, Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak said its training programmes, practical experiments and research initiatives were helping to strengthen the kingdom’s agricultural sector.
The visit took place in the presence of National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) secretary-general Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, and agriculture and livestock affairs Under-Secretary Asim Abdullatif.
It was part of ongoing efforts to further develop the sector and enhance its contribution towards achieving food security.
Mr Al Mubarak highlighted the importance of the partnership between the ministry and NIAD in supporting quality programmes designed to nurture national talent and empower agricultural entrepreneurs.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding initiatives that align with national priorities focused on sustainability and increasing local agricultural production.
During the tour, the minister and Shaikha Maram were briefed on the centre’s plans, including the expansion of training and qualification programmes, the strengthening of strategic partnerships with national entities, and the activation of memoranda of understanding signed between the ministry and various relevant organisations.
Shaikha Maram said the Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme was helping qualified Bahrainis establish sustainable and productive agricultural projects.
The centre’s supervisors also reviewed agricultural projects to test the cultivation of new crops in Bahrain and assess their suitability for local environmental conditions, including studying the best systems for cultivating and propagating them and achieving optimal use of available natural resources, primarily water and farm land.
These experiments focus on crops with high nutritional value that are scalable and commercially viable.
