Residents of Hamad Town have renewed their appeal to the authorities to fast-track the registration of two plots allocated for the construction of mosques in the area.
The sites on Roads 536 and 535 were allocated nearly eight years ago for the Imam Al Mahdi Mosque and the Khatam Al Anbiya Mosque, respectively.
The campaign is now being led by Northern Municipal Council member Abdulla Al Qubaisi, who said residents were frustrated by the prolonged delay despite years of follow-up with the relevant authorities.

“People have expressed disappointment over the lack of tangible progress, despite continuous communication with all concerned authorities during the past eight years,” he said.
“During this period, three successive directors of the Jaffari Waqf Directorate provided verbal assurances, but no concrete developments have been made on the ground.
“Efforts have included site visits to the designated plots and a series of co-ordination meetings involving the Jaffari Waqf Directorate, the Urban Planning and Development Authority, the Survey and Land Registration Bureau and the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry.
“However, the procedures still remain stalled and no comprehensive solution has been reached.”
The municipal councillor and residents have now renewed their call for the relevant authorities, particularly the Jaffari Waqf Directorate, to turn years of follow-up efforts and repeated assurances into concrete action.
They urged the completion of procedures to register the two plots and issue the official title deeds, paving the way for construction to begin.
They stressed that the matter represents an urgent religious and community need for those living in Block 1205 of Hamad Town, who have been waiting for nearly a decade for the mosque and congregational mosque project to move forward.
In February, the GDN reported that officials were following up on procedures related to the construction of the Khatam Al Anbiya Mosque and Imam Al Mahdi Mosque.
The update came as maintenance and development works at several mosques in Hamad Town, including expansion projects, new parking facilities and construction works, were accelerated ahead of Ramadan.
The developments were highlighted during an inspection visit by Mr Al Qubaisi, conducted in co-operation with the Sunni and Jaffari Endowments Directorates of the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry.
Since then, work has been completed on two mosques in Hamad Town – the Sayida Zainab Mosque in Block 1209 and the Fatima Bint Al Rasool Mosque in Block 1210.
Expansion projects have also been approved for the Abdulrahman Bin Owf Mosque and Umm Salmah Mosque in Block 1209, as well as the Ramla Bint Abi Sufian Mosque in Block 1205.
