A 21-year-old individual was arrested by the authorities for luring and exploiting a 13-year-old child through a social media platform, the Interior Ministry announced yesterday.
According to the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, an investigation was launched as soon as it received the case and evidence was collected which led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
Necessary legal procedures are being taken to refer the case to the Public Prosecution.
The authorities urged families to strengthen supervision and raising children’s awareness of the risks of dealing with strangers online.
They stated that parents should monitor their children’s use of social media, educate them not to share photos or personal information with any unknown party, and immediately report any suspicious communication or attempt to lure them.
