BOWLING – Bahrain’s junior boys’ bowling national team have departed for Jakarta, Indonesia to take part in the 25th Asian Junior Bowling Championship, which officially gets underway on Sunday.
The kingdom’s squad features seven rising young bowlers, including Khalifa Hamad Althawadi, Faisal Bader Sameer, Abdulkarim Mohamed Aljahrami, Ali Ahmed Aqeel, Al Husein Sabt, Sultan Mohamed Yusuf, and Abdulrahman Muhamed Saeed.
They will be going for gold in the singles, doubles, teams of four, and, if qualified, masters events at the Indonesian capital’s Jaya Ancol Bowling Centre.
The Bahraini delegation that travelled for the tournament is headed by Bahrain Bowling Federation secretary general Issa Taqi, and it includes head coach Mohammed Janahi.
There will be a team managers’ meeting tomorrow followed by practices and the opening ceremony on Sunday.
The singles event will then be held on Monday, the doubles on Tuesday, and then the teams of four on Wednesday and Thursday.
The masters contest will then be held on Friday and Saturday next week on the concluding days of the Asian Bowling Federation tournament.
Bahrain’s bowlers have been gearing up for the event with local preparations under Janahi’s supervision.
The Bahrainis are competing as part of a field of 92 boys’ bowlers and 37 girls’ competitors representing 15 countries.
The other nations are China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and Vietnam.
