A couple in Peterborough, England, returned from a holiday to find their bedroom severely damaged after a vacuum cleaner left on charge caused a fire.
Firefighters were called to the house in the early hours of Saturday, August 15, after the couple discovered the blaze had gutted their bedroom.
Footage shows the room covered in thick black soot left by the fire.
Despite the severity of the blaze, the flames did not spread to the rest of the house because the internal doors were closed, starving the fire of oxygen.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service urged people to switch off all electrical appliances before leaving home and to keep internal doors shut.
