MMA – Bahrain’s Sabrinna de Sousa extended her incredible unbeaten run in professional mixed martial arts (MMA) with a stunning unanimous decision victory in the Professional Fighters League (PFL) Tampa fight night held in Florida, the US.
De Sousa, the world’s first three-time women’s world champion under the International MMA Federation (IMMAF) and a KHK MMA superstar, put on a striking clinic as she dominated former world-title challenger Taila Santos from Brazil in their women’s flyweight bout.
Considered by many as a star-making performance, de Sousa used her superior standup skills to pick up her statement unanimous decision win over a tough challenger, while setting herself up as a top contender in her PFL weight division.
De Sousa has now won all seven of her pro fights as her star continues to shine at the highest levels of international MMA.
Elsewhere in PFL Tampa, women’s MMA legend Cris Cyborg left the cage with her hand raised for potentially the final time in her illustrious career in the night’s main event.
She topped fellow-Brazilian Ketlen ‘Fenomeno’ Vieira by unanimous decision to retain the PFL women’s featherweight championship.
Cyborg controlled the pace for the first two rounds, but action soon picked up as Vieira began to mount some offense of her own.
Usually the aggressor standing up, Cyborg mixed her striking with high-level grappling to score takedowns in the final round and secure the hard-fought decision win.
In the co-main event, former champion Gadzhi Rabadanov of Russia needed just under one round to take care of business against Tracy Reeder from the US, winning by technical knockout.
Rabadanov controlled Reeder on the ground and then unloaded some vicious ground and pound with just seconds left in the opening frame to score the dominant win to make it two straight.
Kicking off the main card, England’s Luke ‘The Gent’ Trainer delivered a stunning second round knockout against Roland ‘The Dream’ Dunlap of the US.
After a back-and-forth opening round, Trainer found his range in the second round, and unloaded a well-placed front kick to the face, which sent Dunlap crashing to the mat.
Trainer finished things off with some brutal ground and pound for his sixth-straight win.
