Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak has announced the launch of the pilot phase of the Building Information Modelling (BIM) project in co-ordination with the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), with the aim of developing the building permit process, speeding up procedures and improving the accuracy and quality of engineering data.
The project seeks to integrate BIM technology with the Benayat system as a step towards incorporating it into the unified licensing system. This will enable the automated review of designs and verification of their compliance with engineering and planning requirements through three-dimensional digital models.
The pilot phase will cover a number of government and private-sector projects in Diyar Al Muharraq, Salman City and the Bahrain International Investment Park, before the system is expanded to projects across different areas of the kingdom.
Mr Al Mubarak said the project represented a major step in the digital transformation of the urban development sector, helping investors and developers save time and costs, improving inspection procedures and enhancing the efficiency of the engineering and municipal system.
iGA chief executive officer Mohammed Ali Al Qaed said the project reflected government integration in adopting modern technologies. It will make use of spatial data, three-dimensional models and the National Geographic Information Database to support urban planning, building safety, compliance with standards and faster issuance of licences and permits.
