Bahrain Food Holding Company (Ghitha), a portfolio company of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, has announced the appointment of Mahmood Zainal as chief executive officer. The appointment marks an important milestone in Ghitha's development and strengthens its leadership for the next phase of growth.
Welcoming Mr Zainal to his new role, Ghitha chairman Basim Al Saie said: "The appointment of Ghitha's chief executive officer represents an important milestone in the company's journey. We are pleased to welcome Mahmood Zainal to lead Ghitha as we continue to develop our portfolio, strengthen collaboration with the private sector, and create long-term value for Bahrain's food ecosystem."
Ghitha's newly-appointed chief executive officer Mr Zainal said: "I am honoured to join Ghitha at such an important stage of its journey. I look forward to working with the Board, our portfolio companies, and our partners to build on the strong foundations already established, capitalise on new opportunities for growth, and strengthen Ghitha's contribution to building a more resilient and sustainable food sector in Bahrain."
In his role, Mr Zainal will oversee Ghitha's strategic direction and operations, working closely with the Board of Directors, portfolio companies, and strategic partners. He will focus on portfolio development, business growth, operational excellence, and identifying opportunities across the food value chain. His role will support the development of a more resilient and competitive food sector in the Kingdom.
Mr Zainal brings more than 20 years of professional experience across investment management, private banking, and direct investment, alongside specialised expertise in the food and beverage and agricultural sectors. During his tenure as executive director of investments at Esterad Bank, he managed strategic investments across the food and agriculture sectors. His experience also includes portfolio management, executing acquisitions and exits, and serving on the boards of several companies across the GCC, the United States, and Europe.
He also brings extensive experience in developing and growing businesses, managing cross-functional teams, and setting the strategic direction of operating companies, including businesses within the food and beverage sector. His background also includes operational management and the development of long-term strategies that strengthen performance and create sustainable value for stakeholders.
Mr Zainal holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University's John Molson School of Business and has completed executive education programmes at the University of Oxford and Ivey Business School.
