The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has warned that organised criminal networks may be managing panhandling operations across the Sultanate for illegal financial gain.
Authorities stated these networks frequently target vulnerable individuals, including women and children. Officials urged members of the public to protect potential victims by reporting suspected cases rather than encouraging the practice.
Under Article 297 of Oman’s Penal Code, anyone caught begging in mosques, streets, public or private spaces, or shops faces up to one year in prison and a fine of RO100.
