VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain wrapped up their campaign yesterday in the inaugural edition of the Arab Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship, played in Amman, Jordan.
The kingdom’s youth women’s volleyball national team lost to their counterparts from Morocco 0-3 (6-25, 7-25, 16-25) at Sports Palace Hall in Amman’s Al Hussein Youth City.
It was their sixth straight defeat as they ended the seven-nation tournament, which was organised by the Arab Volleyball Association in cooperation with the Jordan Volleyball Federation.
In their previous games of the competition, Bahrain opened their schedule going down to hosts Jordan 0-3 (7-25, 10-25, 12-25).
They then lost to Egypt 0-3 (3-25, 4-25, 5-25), to Palestine 0-3 (19-25, 16-25, 18-25), to Algeria 0-3 (12-25, 10-25, 9-25), and to Lebanon 0-3 (6-25, 7-25, 6-25) prior to their concluding fixture yesterday.
Bahrain had a 12-player squad in the championship.
The nationals, coached by Ebrahim Hasan, were skippered by Zainab Malalla, while her teammates included fellow-middle blocker Layan Mazin; outside hitters Zainab Kalwan, Zahra Alasfoor, Maya Falah, Dareen Alsuwaidi, Kawthar Khalil, and Leena Almooji; opposite spiker Manasek Rakhis; setters Sama Ashoori and Shereen Ahmed, and libero Maryam Abdulla.
