The Coastguard has launched an investigation into an alleged piracy attack after a Bahraini fishing boat carrying three people was subjected to a robbery in the northern maritime areas of the kingdom, the Interior Ministry said last night.
According to the victims, armed men seized the boat and its contents after firing warning shots, with no injuries reported.
The assailants then left the three men stranded at sea.
A boat that happened to be in the vicinity subsequently transported them to a Coastguard station, where the safety of all three men was confirmed.
All necessary legal procedures have been taken, the ministry added.
The Coastguard urged all seagoers to exercise caution when sailing in the area and to ensure that the boat’s Automatic Identification System (AIS) remains operational while at sea, allowing distress calls to be made and assistance to be provided when necessary.
