A Canada-based Egyptian tourist has alleged that he was robbed of cash and attacked with a knife by two women inside a taxi in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Abdelrehman 'Alex' Soliman, 28, claimed he entered a cab in the Karaköy district, where the driver and two female passengers - who introduced themselves as Eleanor and Aisha - trapped him inside.
Sharing his ordeal on social media, Soliman alleged that the vehicle's doors were locked before the women forcibly took 6,500 liras (approx. BD51) from his pocket. He claimed they then forced him to tap his bank card on a POS terminal for a further 3,375 liras (approx. BD26).
When Soliman attempted to prevent the suspects from fleeing and began filming them on his mobile phone, one of the women attacked him with a knife, leaving gashes on his arms.
Soliman stated that the taxi driver refused to intervene and drove off with the women. He later received medical treatment for his injuries at a local hospital.
Istanbul authorities have detained the taxi driver for questioning as an investigation continues.
