Bahrain is committed to keeping pace with the latest technological and scientific developments and strengthening the kingdom’s position as a leading regional hub for space communications and their applications, in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the National Telecommunication and ICT Strategy.
Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) chief executive officer Dr Mohamed Al Aseeri said this while taking part in the fourth session of the ‘Space Connect 2026’ series, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), under the theme, ‘Beyond the Horizon: Framing the Future of Space Communications’.
The session featured members of the ITU Academic Advisory Council, which brings together experts and researchers from around the world to discuss the latest research and concepts shaping the next generation of space communications policies and technologies.
Dr Al Aseeri said the session provided an important platform to explore the future of space communications technologies and highlighted the ITU’s vital role in co-ordinating global efforts in this field.
He added that the session focused on several ambitious topics shaping the future of the sector, including the development of the Solar System Internet (SSI) to connect Earth with spacecraft and future settlements on other planets.
Other key topics included establishing a Co-ordinated Lunar Time (LTC), a fundamental requirement for co-ordinating human and robotic activities on the lunar surface, developing quantum-secure communications to protect data in the era of quantum computing, and using artificial intelligence (AI) to expand Earth observation data capabilities and improve the processing and analysis of vast amounts of space data.
