A Bahraini man has died in hospital after being seriously injured in a traffic accident that left two others with injuries.
The Public Prosecution’s Advocate General and Traffic Prosecution Head said the accident happened on the evening of September 7 on Al Quds Avenue, after a driver allegedly approached a traffic light intersection without due care or reducing his speed.
He crashed into a vehicle that was stopped at the stop line, seriously injuring its driver, the driver’s sister who was travelling as a passenger, and another passenger who was in the accused driver’s vehicle.
The General Directorate of Traffic notified the Public Prosecution of the accident on September 9, prompting an immediate investigation.
The accused, who is unemployed, was questioned and confronted with the evidence gathered against him. He confessed to the charges, following which the Public Prosecution ordered his pre-trial detention pending further investigation.
Medical reports were requested regarding the condition of the injured, while samples taken from the accused were sent for examination. Policemen were also tasked with monitoring the victims’ health conditions.
The Prosecution said it received notification yesterday that the driver of the stopped vehicle had died in hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. His body was released to his family.
The accused remains in custody as investigations continue ahead of his referral to criminal trial.
The Public Prosecution stressed that protecting lives and safeguarding public safety remain among the state’s highest priorities, adding that it handles traffic incidents and other cases in accordance with the law and established legal procedures while safeguarding the rights and interests of all parties.
It also urged the public not to circulate or publish unverified information about incidents under investigation or legal proceedings, stressing that inaccurate or incomplete reports could affect those involved, harm public safety and mislead public opinion.
