Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna Al Romaihi attended a ceremony honouring the winners of the seventh GCC Housing Award, along with supporters and contributors to housing development in GCC countries, and students who won the third GCC Housing Hackathon, held as part of the fourth day of Gulf Housing Week.
GCC Secretary General Jasem AlBudaiwi was present.
The minister highlighted the continued development of joint Gulf housing efforts, noting that Gulf Housing Week has become an important platform bringing together officials, experts, specialists and youth from GCC countries to exchange successful experiences, showcase innovative solutions and practices, and strengthen co-operation among government entities, the private sector, and academic and community institutions.
She affirmed that Bahrain’s hosting of the fourth Gulf Housing Week reflects the GCC countries’ efforts to strengthen joint housing co-operation, exchange expertise and experiences, and promote innovation and community partnership to develop housing solutions and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
Ms Al Romaihi noted that the GCC Housing Award is an important initiative for promoting excellence and innovation in the housing sector by highlighting leading projects and models that offer practical and sustainable solutions.
She said the diversity of the winning projects in the seventh edition reflects the advanced experiences across GCC countries and provides a basis for developing social housing policies and programmes.
The ceremony announced the winning projects under the theme Integrated Services Housing Project Enhancing Quality of Life.
The West Baniyas Housing Project, submitted by the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority of the UAE, won first place and a prize of 200,000 riyals; Sultan Haitham City, submitted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning of Oman, won second place and 100,000 riyals and Khayala Residential Destination, submitted by the Municipalities and Housing Ministry of Saudi Arabia, won third place and 75,000 riyals.
It also honoured a number of supporters and contributors to housing development and community work in GCC countries for their contributions to providing suitable housing for eligible families.
The Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) of Bahrain was honoured for contributing more than BD1 million, alongside a number of supporting institutions, initiatives and individuals from GCC countries.
